Last week I had one of the most interesting men I’ve ever met come into the studio.  This 93 year old gentleman had more bounce in his step than many people 30 years younger.  He still drives and has a part time job…as he said, “To keep me out of trouble”.

I was working on an older photo of him in uniform.  It was obvious by his age that he would be a WWII Veteran.  Turns out, he was in the D – Day Invasion. We had the most wonderful conversation.  It made me realize that very few of us can begin to comprehend what these young boys experienced.  We read the accounts and see the documentaries and movies, but it is truly beyond comprehension.

He talked about the raw fear that was present and how just the slightest move one way or the other meant injury or death for one soldier while his friend moved forward to fight the battle.  There are so few of this “Greatest Generation” remaining.  And remember, they were only in their teens and early twenties when asked to put their lives on the line.

Thank you to all who have served our country.
